The Star Pû Method, developed by choreographer and interdisciplinary artist Larissa Velez-Jackson, is a somatic, improvisation-based movement practice that focuses on intuition, presence, and embodied healing. Drawing from meditation, experimental dance, and therapeutic disciplines, the method invites participants to listen closely to their internal signals; allowing movement, vocalization, and stillness to arise naturally rather than through set choreography.
The practice emphasizes radical permission, self-awareness, and the release of physical and emotional tension, creating space for authentic expression and responsive movement. Through imagery, guided prompts, and a supportive environment, the Star Pû Method fosters a deeper connection between the body, mind, and creative impulse.
I had the opportunity to work with this process firsthand as a performer in a piece directed by Velez-Jackson. This experience deepened my understanding of improvisational performance and expanded my approach to movement, collaboration, and embodied creativity.
